Welcome on
board the Acadiaventure
The spirit of adventure which is "Acadiaventure".
Our
aim is to:
Reach
out to the French-speaking world in North America, part of whose heritage is
based on the history of New France and which is so rich in cultural diversity.
All along our route we will be meeting people who speak French or who have a
love of the French language, with the object of sharing our different cultures
by .
The voyage of discovery
"Acadiaventure" will be the framework for a project for schools, centred on
the history and geography of the areas covered by its itinerary, including contacts
with other school pupils through the website. Local school children will be
invited on board the boat at the various ports of call to chat about the project.
Historic
links
In a spirit of
discovery we will be navigating historic waterways and acting as messengers
for "New France", exchanging news and views at every port of call and every
colonial or missionary settlement - our sailing boat being perhaps just a large
canoe, as in the olden days.
A virtual link
The website "Acadiaventure"
is intended to serve as a database and diary for our journey as well as a place
to exchange information and ideas.
Departing from Charente Maritime in western France we arrived on the Acadian coast in June 2002 for a journey lasting two years which is taking us as far as Great lakes.
Itinerary: Detroit
de Canso (Nova Scotia), the south of Prince Edward Island, the St Lawrence River,
Quebec, Montreal...
The boat at Isle Madame
"ZEN"
is a sailing boat (a sloop) 12m long, 4m wide, weighing 13 tonnes.
Having built our boat and set off from France for a three-year voyage to Brazil and Canada, we finished our epic journey at St Pierre & Miquelon in 1995.
It was an unforgettable
summer, travelling between Montreal and the Madeleine Islands, and we received
such a fantastic welcome that we just had to come back to do the "Acadiaventure"
project.
Gérard and Françoise
Zeegers, the creators of the project.
